John D. Dowdle, M.D., FAAOS

Dr. John Dowdle completed his undergraduate studies at Haverford College outside of Philadelphia where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and lettered in varsity tennis. Following a year of cancer research at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia he attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, graduating with a medical degree in 1988. He then completed his General Surgery internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx where he developed an interest in hand and microvascular surgery. Dr. Dowdle completed his fellowship training in hand surgery at the Roosevelt Hospital in New York, one of the oldest and most respected fellowships in the country. He has published articles in the field of hand surgery.

Dr. Dowdle has lent his expertise as a team physician for Manhattanville College, the Buick Classic PGA event, the GHI Bronx Tennis Classic ATP event, as well as serving as the Medical Director for the Nutmeg Games, the Connecticut State Olympics. He is the Director of Hand Surgery at Stamford Hospital and was selected as one of America's Top Surgeons by the Consumers' Research Council and as one of the Best Doctors by Better Living Magazine.

Dr. Dowdle received his board certification from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in 1998 and his board certification in Hand Surgery in 2001. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand, the New England Orthopaedic Society, the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society, the Stamford Medical Society and the Johns Hopkins Medical & Surgical Association. As a physician at Premier Medical Group, he currently is seeing patients in the Stamford, CT and West Harrison, NY offices.
