Our Breast Care Services

We, at Fairfield County Breast Center, are the surgical arm of the award-winning Stamford Hospital Women's Breast Center. We work closely with the radiology and plastic surgery departments and the Bennett Cancer Center. Our breast care approach is always to try the least invasive method first, if possible.

Our philosophy...the patient is a person and not the disease. We attend to mind, body and spirit to create the best possible outcome and to empower the patient to be an active participant in her breast care. You will never get "lost in the system" or treated like a number when you are with us. Many patients have said that they automatically feel that they are among friends when they enter our Stamford, CT office.

We promise to always be there for you. We will give you an appointment within 24 hours of a diagnosis. And your breast care doesn't stop once you are discharged. Even if you had breast cancer ten years ago, we are still part of your team, we are still your family.

Breast conditions we treat:

Benign Breast Disease
Our surgeons treat a number of benign breast issues including fibrocystic breast changes, nipple discharge, breast pain and benign breast masses.

Breast Cancer
Women today have many options for treating breast cancer. Sometimes that can get overwhelming. If you need breast cancer surgery, our surgeons will work with you to review the options of breast conservation (keeping the breast intact) versus mastectomy (removing all of the breast tissue). Our surgeons are available for consultations five days a week and in the event a problem is identified, appointments can be made to see a surgeon within 24-36 hours.

Breast Conserving Procedures:

Lumpectomy-- Removing only the tumor and surrounding tissue

Partial mastectomy-- Removal of cancerous tissue and some healthy surrounding tissue

Breast Removal Procedures:

  • Total (or simple) mastectomy: Removal of entire breast
  • Modified radical mastectomy: Removal of breast and lymph nodes
  • Radical mastectomy: Removal of breast, lymph nodes and chest wall muscles

Breast Reconstruction Procedures:
Many women who undergo mastectomy choose immediate breast reconstruction. Reconstructive plastic surgeons At Fairfield County  Breast Center work closely with the breast cancer team to provide patients with reconstructive options:

  • Breast implants: An implant filled with salt water or silicone gel is placed under the chest muscle to build a new breast-like shape.
  • Tissue flaps: Flap reconstruction uses muscle, fat and skin from your body (usually from the abdominal or back) to create a new breast. These types of reconstruction are called transverse rectus abdominis myocutaneous (TRAM) flaps, deep inferior epigastric perforator tissue (DIEP) flaps or latissimus dorsi myocutaneous (LD) flaps.
