Podiatry/Foot and Ankle Surgery

Podiatry is the field of healthcare devoted to the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the foot and ankle. Common conditions encountered by podiatrists include corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, bunions, hammertoes, plantar warts, heel spurs, and arch problems; ankle and foot injuries, sprains, fractures, deformities, and infections; and foot complaints associated with diseases such as diabetes, gout, and rheumatoid arthritis.

The treatment options for these conditions include surgical intervention, medical therapy, physical therapy, and orthotic therapy. Treatment usually consists of conservative care; however surgery is performed when indicated by our fellowship trained foot and ankle surgeons.

Orthotic Therapy

Orthotic therapy is used to correct and control the position and motion of the feet. An orthotic is an insert that is placed in the shoe to accomplish this goal. Abnormal foot motion, such as over-pronation, can lead to painful foot, lower extremity and back conditions. A foot and ankle specialist can take a mold of your foot and create a custom insert that can be placed into your shoe and help correct and control abnormal position and motion of the feet.
